Dan Sinykin is an assistant professor of English at Emory University. He will discuss a suite of projects adjacent to his most recent book, Big Fiction: How Conglomeration Changed Book Publishing and American Literature, revolving around the Post45 Data Collective, a project cofounded with Laura McGrath and co-edited with Melanie Walsh. Their latest publication is a dataset on literary prizes by Claire Grossman, Juliana Spahr, and Stephanie Young, which has proved the foundation for landmark accounts of how nepotism works in literary prizes. Sinykin wrote about the prize dataset and the Post45 Data Collective for LARB in an essay called "Fuck the Poetry Police." With Laura McGrath, he also published a series of articles in collaboration with Public Books, several of which use cultural data to address inequality, Hacking the Culture Industries, including geographic inequality in fiction from The New Yorker and underrepresentation of black writers in The New York Times.
