DESCRIPTION:\nJoin the Scholars' Lab & the Digital Humanities Center for an
event celebrating the launch of Digital Futures of Graduate Studies\, a new

Gabriel Hankins (Clemson University) as well as contributors Alison Booth
(UVA English) and Brandon Walsh (UVA Library). Rennie Mapp (UVA IHGC\, DHI
& DH Certificate) will moderate\, and Phil Trella (UVA\, Office of Graduate
& Postdoctoral Affairs) will be respondent. Refreshments will be provided.
Please register to reserve your lunch!\n\n\nFrom the book description
(University of Minnesota Press): How are the humanities adapting to the
rise of digital technologies\, and what are some of the tried and tested
ways that postsecondary institutions are proving the importance of
humanities training at the graduate level? Bringing together a diverse
group of scholars and students\, Digital Futures of Graduate Study in the
Humanities invites a reimagining of current models of graduate education to
address ongoing challenges to the humanities and to create sustainable and
 humane pedagogies\, classes\, and institutions. \n\nThe essays cover a
wide range of topics\, such as the skills required to learn and practice
digital methods\, the resources needed to support students and faculty in
this enterprise\, the lack of meaningful credit for undertaking this
time-intensive work\, and the diminished employment possibilities within
academia for graduate students who emerge with these skills. \n\nGabriel
Hankins is associate professor of English at Clemson University and series
coeditor of Cambridge Elements in Digital Literary Studies. \n\nAlison
Booth is Professor of English and Faculty Director of the Library’s DH
Center at the University of Virginia.\n\nBrandon Walsh is Head of Student
Programs in the Scholars’ Lab in the University of Virginia Library.
\n\nSpecial thanks to our co-sponsors of this event\, the UVA Department of
English and the Institute of the Humanities and Global Cultures\, DH
 Initiative and DH Certificate.\n\n \n\n
