World Digital Preservation Day

We’re celebrating our third annual World Digital Preservation day a early (with our Australian colleagues!) this year due to room scheduling, but please join us on Wednesday, November 6th from 2-3:30 p.m.

If you attended last year, I hope you’ll come again! As has become tradition, I’ll be doing a two-part workshop, so please feel free to come to both parts or just one:

This year, more than ever, I encourage people to bring a laptop, especially if they want to participate in the second part of the workshop, which will (tech withstanding) include exploring components of one of our archival collections in an emulated environment.

Part 1: 2-2:30 – PDA tool and workflow updates

Personal Digital preservation and archiving tool updates – because maintenance is important for your materials! Learn about tools and steps you can take to save websites, export and preserve information you need, and more!

Part 2: 2:30 – 3:30. Explorations in UVA Archives Emulation

Come get a hands-on look at what the FCOP project and the EaaSI teams at UVA have been up to for the last year. In addition to working on software and born digital preservation, we’ve been working hard on how this translates into access and use of materials.

Come ready to log in and explore a browser-based environment we’ve created for architectural materials dependent on specific software to display and render, and to test out what this actually looks like for users in a guided exercise.
