Topics in Library Management: Leading Change and Transition

In their book, Leading with Authenticity in Times of Transition, Center for Creative Leadership authors Kerry Bunker and Michael Wakefield state what you already know:  “Change and transition are no longer periodic events.  They are an ongoing and natural state of many organizations.”   This is certainly true for information technology organizations, like UVA’s CIO team.   In this pilot workshop, we will talk about two sides of change – the structural or technical side and more specifically, the people or the  “human side of change.”

Using the work of William Bridges who has written extensively on change and transition for individuals and organizations and our own experience with change management, participants will:

  • Become aware of your readiness for change
  • Understand how change and transition differ
  • Consider where you and your employees are in the phases of change
  • Consider how you and your employees react to change
  • Understand the leadership skills for creating the climate for change
  • Understand the importance of communication during change

Each participant will leave the session with a personal and team action plan to improve the climate for change in their area.
