Curating Hate: An open session on the Sarah Patton Boyle burned cross

Curating Hate: An open session on the Sarah Patton Boyle burned cross

The University of Virginia in 100 Objects is currently on exhibit at the Harrison Institute and Albert & Shirley Small Special Collections Library. After being excluded from the exhibition after the events of August 11 and 12, a 1956 burned cross donated to the Library by Sarah Patton Boyle will be returned to the gallery.

Please join us for a talk about the exclusion and subsequent inclusion of this item in the exhibition, followed by an open discussion. The speakers are Molly Schwartzburg, Curator for the Albert & Shirley Small Special Collections Library, and Michael Mason, Assistant Dean in the Office of African-American Affairs. The discussion will be moderated by John Unsworth, University Librarian and Dean of Libraries.

This event takes place in the Rotunda Multipurpose Room. Refreshments will be provided.
