UVA Library: Your Passport to Global Experiences
We are very pleased to announce that UVA Library will be hosting its second Global Week Celebration entitled:
UVA Library: Your Passport to Global Experiences
Friday, October 27, 2017
11:00am-1:00pm in the auditorium of the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library
Visit the many ways that the Library supports global initiatives
This celebration will feature items from the UVA Library collections and services that address our Global Communities. We will feature 13 tables where you can see a variety of materials, from an International film preview to a rare printed book recently arrived from Tibet; you can try out a pair of 3D glasses to immerse yourself in a virtual foreign city, or you can find out what the Music Encoding Initiative is doing. You can also discover what we do with Latin and the Classics department, or how we engage with Digital Humanities by applying Geospatial technologies in projects studying the Ukraine. Visit us and you will see these and many other fascinating global projects.
We are expecting more than 100 students. The first thirty students who visit every station will receive a $10 gift card from Haris Teeter.
We will also be accompanied by live music from around the world thanks to the generous collaboration by UVA students and staff:
Samyukta Venkat “Me and my uke”
Will & Tiernan Rourk as the “Ruairc Duo” "Irish traditions"
Sunny & Sophia Wang & Zhang. "Liang, Liang"
Maria DeHart. "Song in open D"
Giovanni Jimenez, "Spanish classical guitar"
And we will enjoy an international lunch with food from Afghan Kabob Palace at noon!
On behalf of the entire Global International Group (GIG).
