Mapping US Census data in R

Mapping US Census data in R

Joins us for “Census Data in R” and learn how to make thematic maps without using external GIS software. In this workshop, participants will be given a short introduction to Census products and geographies available for analysis, how to use the {tidycensus} package, and review three thematic mapping packages to compare features. There will be code-along exercises as well as dedicated time for questions and practice.

Expected prior knowledge: R basics (Rstudio, tidyverse syntax). Recommended knowledge: Somewhat familiar with U.S. Census (or wanting to get data for a specific product).

Our policy is that we do not record live workshops in order to encourage robust Q&A. However, you can always find the full workshop materials for all of our workshops at: https://library.virginia.edu/data/training/past-workshops which allows you to work through the material at your own pace. We also encourage you to reach out to the instructor at any time for a one-on-one consult, and for specific or general questions about any of the topics we cover.
