Join us for a panel discussion on the challenges and triumphs of women, non-binary, and queer individuals in the music industry, with a focus on creating more inclusive and equitable music spaces.

This event is open to all and is sponsored by the UVA Library IDEA Grant.

Registration is encouraged but not required.

Inclusive Soundscapes is a program series at UVA Library that encourages women & non-binary musicians to express themselves and to build solidarity in the UVA/Charlottesville music scene.

Debra Guy (she/they), a queer Virginia singer/songwriter, leads the garage pop/indie rock band 7th Grade Girl Fight. With 30 years of experience, she’s released solo and band records and performed primarily along the East Coast, with notable shows as far as California and Italy. 7GGF offers a dynamic mix of garage pop and indie rock, combining infectious choruses with captivating energy and Guy crafts lyrically powerful, catchy songs delivered with authenticity. Beyond music, she gracefully juggles a full-time job at the University of Virginia, married life, and raising a teenager.

Jess Martin is a music and events professional with over two decades of experience in booking, promotions, and community engagement, focusing on independent work with artists, venues, and festivals. As the owner of Dot Matrix Promo, she has successfully managed events for local and national artists, including work with LOCKN’ and venues across the country. Jess honed her skills at WNRN, where she managed social media and produced local programming and events. While living in Michigan, she served as Station Manager at WYCE in Grand Rapids, a diverse community non-commercial radio station. Now back home in Virginia, she continues to showcase her work and passion for music and creativity through her diverse experiences in the industry and commitment to community.

Chloë Ester (she/they) is a singer-songwriter who creates highly lyric-driven music with indie, alt/rock, pop, and emo influences. Based in Charlottesville, VA, her songs have been described as introspective, cynical, delicate, dark, and sarcastic. She has been playing locally for over 10 years, both as a solo artist and with various bands and musician collectives.

Nina Chaplin of Pinkish: “Hey I’m Nina Chaplin. I moved to Charlottesville, VA in 2023 from Orlando, FL where I was in the music scene for over 12 years in a Band called “Wet Nurse” after a year of living here I started a new band called “Pinkish” where I am the lead singer/guitarist. “
