Sharing research data after the completion of a study is increasingly becoming a required part of the research process, especially for federally funded projects. In this introductory workshop, we will explore some best practices and strategies for preparing datasets for deposit into a data repository. The topical focus will be on file organization, basic data cleaning, writing documentation/creating metadata, and finding/selecting an appropriate data repository. We will work to familiarize ourselves with these skills and ideas by applying them to an example tabular dataset.
Our policy is that we do not record live workshops in order to encourage robust Q&A. However, you can always find the full workshop materials for all of our workshops at: https://library.virginia.edu/data/training/past-workshops which allows you to work through the material at your own pace. We also encourage you to reach out to the instructor at any time for a one-on-one consult, and for specific or general questions about any of the topics we cover.
