Do you have cherished books with tears, damaged spines, detached pages, or broken binding? As part of Preservation Week 2023, the University of Virginia Library's Preservation Services team is joining forces with the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library to repair your books for no cost.
During the week of April 30 to May 6, drop off a maximum of one book per family at your local JMRL branch for repair. Please write your name in pencil inside your book and place book in your personal reusable bag. Fill out waiver at your local library (or download the waiver here) and include the signed waiver in the bag. UVA Library Preservation staff members will perform simple repairs and have books ready to return to you by June.
Please note that we can only mend up to 75 books total. We are limited in our ability to treat books that have previously been mended with tape. If the damage is too severe, or has too much tape, we may decline work on the item, but we will suggest other ways to preserve it. Rare and expensive items or items of a sensitive nature are not appropriate for the Community Book Clinic.
Please contact Sue Donovan at sd3gz@virginia.edu with any questions.
