Prusa MK4 (Printsipal Skinner)

Prusa MK4 (Printsipal Skinner) Model MK4

The MK4 is the latest edition of our flagship 3D printing workhorse. It combines the reliability and safety features of its predecessors with high-speed performance enabled by Input Shaper support. It brings plenty of new features like a perfect smooth first layer thanks to the Loadcell sensor (no manual adjustments needed).

The next-gen extruder (Nextruder) and 32-bit connected platform provide many quality-of-life improvements like remote printingquick-swap nozzles, and customizable UI with a one-click printing option, and much more.

Step 1: Get a Model

Get a 3D model. Some places to find models are:

Create your own models from scratch using software like Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Blender, and TinkerCad

Scan an object. The Makerspace has a 3D scanner available, but the process takes several hours, so plan your time accordingly!

Step 2: Slice the Model

You must slice your model using the appropriate slicing software.

Step 3: Print the Model

Using Prusa Printers

  • Find your model on-line or create it.
  • Slice the object with PrusaSlicer. Double check that you have the correct printer selected and the correct filament.
  • Check the printer for the following:
    • The build plate is clean and seated correctly.
    • The filament is inserted into the hot end and is not tangled on the spool.
    • The correct filament is installed. PLA or PETG only. If you want a different filament, you first need to get approval from the Makerspace Manager.
    • The printer is powered on.
    • The nozzle is clear of hanging filament.
  • In PrusaSlicer, click the “G” button, select “Upload and Print” then “OK”.
  • Remain with the printer for the first 10 minutes to make sure it is printing correctly.

Removing the Model

  • Let the build plate cool down.
  • Lift the flexible build plate off of the heated bed using the front two corners.
  • Lightly bend the plate using opposing corners. In most cases, your print will pop off the plate. If not, you can gently remove it by hand. Sometimes twisting the object a little can help.
  • DO NOT USE SCREW DRIVERS FROM THE TOOL BOX!

Clean up after yourself!

  • Put support material and other used filament in the blue recycle bin.
