AFK Somatic Movement Workshop: Tune Into Your Body

This workshop on somatic learning, a body-centered approach to education and healing, will be led by UVA professor Kim Brooks Mata. Join us as we focus on using movement prompts to connect to breath and increase sensory awareness to ground and de-stress the body and mind.

No previous experience is required: please wear clothing that allows free movement, and be prepared to re-energize your body and calm your mind.

This event is generously supported by the UVA Arts Council. It is one of a series of events that will be held this academic year, as part of the Library's 2026-2027 arts initiative, AFK: Away From Keyboard, which urges students, the UVA community, and Charlottesville to experiment with creating intentional connections between body and mind. We want to know: what happens to the way we perceive, learn, make, and research when we're AFK? How does tuning into our bodies deepen and expand research? Less blue light; more insight.
