Spheres of Anne Spencer: A Symposium on Scholarship, Poetry, and Legacy

A symposium to bring together Anne Spencer scholars and academics in conversation around the spheres of her archives and contemporary scholarship, her poetry, and her legacy in Central Virginia.

  • Noelle Morrissette - Director of African American and African Diaspora Studies and Professor of English at UNC Greensboro; author of Anne Spencer Between Worlds
  • Camille Dungy - University Distinguished Professor at Colorado State University; UVA’s Kapnick Distinguished Writer-in-Residence in Fall 2024; author of Soil: The Story of a Black Mother's Garden
  • Alison Booth - Faculty Director, DH Center, UVA Library; author of Homes and Haunts
  • Deborah Smith - Jones Memorial Library Executive Director
  • Shaun Spencer-Hester - Curator and Executive Direction, Anne Spencer House and Garden Museum
  • Tessa Berman - poet, scholar, and undergraduate at the University of Virginia

The symposium will take place on Friday, March 21 in Room 330 in the Shannon Library at 160 McCormick Road at the University of Virginia. A light brunch buffet will be available.
