Space Availability - RMC Digital Media Lab

Welcome to the video studio. It’s located in the Digital Media Lab, part of the Robertson Media Center, on the third floor of Clemons Library. This space facilitates students’ exploration of video as an expressive medium for critical and creative engagement across the disciplines. It is open to current UVA students, faculty, and staff. Whether you have video production experience or not, you are welcome to use the space after you complete the required training. Projects with a focus on teaching, learning, research, and scholarship will receive priority.

We have a wide variety of professional level equipment within the video studio including adjustable lighting, a Canon XF300 camera, a teleprompter, audio equipment, four different backdrops, and a number of props. This is a good place for producing professional looking interviews, shooting with the green screen, and recording class presentations.

Here are the steps to follow in order to access the video studio.

Step 1: Watch online training videos

Please watch all of the online training videos (link). We use online training so you can train at a time that best fits your schedule. In addition, these videos are always available to you and you’re welcome to use them as a refresher guide.  If you forget how to use certain equipment, you can review it while you are using the video studio.

Step 2: Complete an in-person test

The next step is an in-person test. It is designed to assess whether you remember our policies and understand the basic operation of the equipment. If you pass the test, you will be certified to access the video studio in the future. Please use this link to sign up for an in-person test.

Step 3: Book the video studio

After you complete your training, you can reserve the room on this page. In order to ensure fair access to the room, you can only reserve the space for a maximum of three hours a day. Your reservation will be reviewed by our staff and you will receive a notification of our decision shortly thereafter.

Step 4: Check out the studio room key

To access the studio, you will need to ask our consultants within the DML, or at the RMC desk, for the room key. After you finish, you will return your key to the consultant on duty, who will check to verify that the room was reset and cleaned.
